Tobias Schiessler studied trombone at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover under Prof. Jonas Bylund and later continued his studies at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm with Prof. Sven-Erik Eriksson. His musical education allowed him to develop his skills in solo, chamber, and orchestral performance.
During his studies, he was an active member of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie and the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, where he had the opportunity to collaborate with renowned conductors such as Pierre Boulez and Claudio Abbado. Performing with these prestigious ensembles enabled him to gain invaluable stage experience and develop artistically at the highest level.
Tobias Schiessler is a laureate of numerous international competitions. As a soloist and chamber musician, he won first prize at the International Brass Ensemble Competition in Passau and was also awarded at the Frank Smith International Trombone Competition in Oslo. As a co-founder and member of Trombone Unit Hannover, he received an award at the Deutscher Musikwettbewerb in Berlin. A particularly outstanding achievement in his career was winning first prize at the Ernest Bloch International Music Competition in London—becoming the first brass instrumentalist in the history of the competition to do so.
Since 2007, Tobias Schiessler has been a permanent member of the Niedersächsisches Staatsorchester Hannover, one of the most prestigious opera orchestras in Germany, where he regularly performs in both operatic and symphonic productions. His versatility and experience also make him a highly sought-after session musician and guest performer with many international orchestras.
Alongside his performing career, since 2009 he has been a trombone lecturer at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover (HMTM), where he educates and mentors the next generation of trombonists.
