The Inaugural Concert of “Żywieckie Suwakowanie” will take the audience on an extraordinary journey across musical eras and styles, presented in a unique form — performed by a trombone ensemble. The diversity of the repertoire and the rich sound palette of this ensemble prove that the trombone, often underestimated as a solo instrument, possesses immense expressive and dynamic potential.

  • George Frideric Handel – Music for the Royal Fireworks (arr. Adam Wesołowski)We open the concert with a monumental work by the Baroque master Handel. Originally composed for orchestra to accompany a royal fireworks display in London in 1749, this piece acquires a new life in Adam Wesołowski’s arrangement for twelve trombones, offering grandeur and a brilliant sonic impact.

  • William Byrd – The Earle of Oxford’s March (arr. Lars Karlin)Renaissance music also finds a perfect home in the sound world of the trombone. In this composition by Byrd — one of the greatest English composers of the 16th century — one can hear the dignity and elegance of courtly dances as well as the characteristic polyphony of the era.

  • James Kazik – The Hex FilesWith an air of mystery and modernity, we move into the world of contemporary music. Kazik, a composer and arranger associated with the U.S. Army orchestra, presents a tension-filled, rhythmic composition where eight trombones create an atmosphere reminiscent of a science fiction series.

  • Adam Wesołowski – Concerto GrossoA composition written specifically for trombone ensemble. Drawing inspiration from the Baroque concerto grosso form, Wesołowski introduces modern means of expression while retaining the concept of dialogue between the “concertino” group and the full ensemble (tutti). Dedicated to twelve trombonists, this piece bridges classical tradition and modern innovation.

  • Anthony DiLorenzo – Full TiltAn energetic, rhythmically driven piece by the American composer and trumpeter, full of unexpected turns and jazz-inspired harmonies. In this eight-trombone arrangement, the players explore dynamic contrasts and sharp rhythmic drive.

  • John Williams – Hymn to the Fallen (arr. Jon Bohls)A moving composition from the film Saving Private Ryan, in which John Williams pays tribute to fallen soldiers. In this version for sixteen trombones, the work gains remarkable depth and nobility — a powerful yet delicate homage to memory.

  • Steven Verhelst – 6.35The concert finale features a dynamic, modern piece by Belgian trombonist and composer Steven Verhelst. While the title may be interpreted symbolically, the essence of the work lies in its rich rhythms, striking textures, and the full spectrum of technical possibilities offered by the trombone. Scored for sixteen performers, this piece serves as a virtuosic and exhilarating conclusion to the evening.

This concert is a true feast for lovers of trombone music — spanning from classical to contemporary, from majestic marches to cinematic emotions and jazz-inspired grooves!
